We
welcome you
to Summercloud
Alpacas
at Couria
Creek, where
currently
we have 22
alpacas on
our 36 acre
property set
in the foothills
of Mt Dromedary.
They share
their home
with a couple
of donkeys,
cattle, a
sheep and
goat, geese,
ducks, chooks
and more.
Just one big
happy menagerie!

Some interesting
and often
asked 'alpaca
facts':
•
Alpacas originate
from South
America (Peru,
Chile and
Bolivia)
• They
were imported
into Australia
(for the second
time) in 1989
•
Alpacas are
curious, alert
and intelligent
animals, with
a gentle nature
•
Their lifespan
is around
15+ years
•
Two breed
types exist
- Huacaya
and Suri
• They
are predominantly
pasture grazers
•
Shearing takes
place once
a year, usually
late spring
before the
heat of summer
• Fleece
colour ranges
from white,
through fawns,
browns, grey,
rose grey
to black
• Fleece
is soft, fine
and silky,
with good
thermal properties
•
Females are
pregnant for
approximately
11.5 months
•
Baby alpacas
are called
cria
Now, armed
with all this
knowledge,
wouldn't you
like to meet
the alpacas?
Spend a little
time here
on the farm
amongst the
animals. Maybe
you are a
spinner, and
require alpaca
fleece. We
supply only
first-grade
saddle fleece,
either raw
or professionally
carded, in
an array of
natural colours,
together with
subtle blends.
Also, we do
at times have
animals for
sale.
