Jenny
and Graham opened
the Tilba
Alpaca Shop in December 1994
as an outlet for
fleece and products
from their alpaca
herd, Kingdale
Alpacas at
Dignams Creek,
near Central Tilba.
Jenny spins the
fleece and is
kept busy knitting
beanies, scarves
and baby booties.
Tea cosies, footwarmers,
latch hook rugs
and wall hangings
are also made
from Kingdale
fleeces. However,
as she had to
knit 6"x
6" squares
as punishment
at school, Jenny's
enthusiasm for
knitting is very
limited!
"Wearing
alpaca is like
being cuddled
all day,"
says Jenny. So
in order to share
the experience
and promote alpaca
products, jumpers,
cardigans, vests,
scarves, berets,
gloves, socks
and beautiful
woven alpaca capes
and shawls are
imported from
Peru.
Ashford products
are available
for spinners,
or can be ordered.
Some Australian
products for sale
include -
• brushed
throw rugs and
knee rugs
• Heirloom
8 ply yarns
• knitting
needles and patterns
• locally
made forge products,
e.g. pokers, hooks,
tucker time triangles,
trivets and
boot jacks
Tilba
Alpaca Shop is open 7 days
a week, 10am -
4pm. Closed Christmas
Day and Good Friday.
When the alpacas
are being shorn
the shop is closed
for the day but
customers are
invited to go
to the farm to
watch the shearing
